Actual Update This Time

Considering there is two weeks left of school for me, this semester, I thought I would give an update on how everything is going. First and foremost, college is hard. There is more work than you expect and it piles up and gets crazy. You get crazy stressed and you want to give up. You realize you aren't in high school anymore and you are in the real world. You realize that you are on your own and have to make choices for yourself and if any of you know me at all, you know that is not easy for me. You come to terms that there are a lot of people you are never going to talk to again and that you are around all new people who know nothing about you. Yes, there are negatives to college, but there are also more positive things than I can count. I am going to try and list some though.

  • The weather! Living in Hawaii definitely has its perks. Here the weather is gorgeous, most of the time. You get the days that down pour rain (and ruin your $100 textbooks) and give you an excuse to wear cowboy boots. There are crazy hot days that give you the excuse to wear shorts. The days that I find chilly and I get to wear jeans and a hoodie and be reminded of home. Then you have the days that I consider perfect. The sun is out and shining, but not killing people with heat because there is the slightest breeze. The kind of breeze that just slightly blows your dress or hair in the wind. You don't need a jacket and you could literally sit outside all day. Those days are definitely my favorite.
  • The people. Everyone here is so nice. Every time I am walking around campus I have people smile at me. Just today I was walking back from the cafeteria, a little out of it, looking down and this random guy asked if I was okay and said he hoped I had a great day. Even when I am just slightly looking down people want to help. Every weekend there are service projects upon service projects. Seriously the people are some of the nicest people I have ever met. They are also the most accepting people I have ever met. No matter what your past is or who you are, people accept you for you and love you. Overall, yes I very much love the people here.
  • The weekends. I always looked forward to the weekends during high school, but I can't even put a level of love to the amount I love weekends. After a crazy stressful week I am able to just relax for an evening and sometimes a day. Even on the weekends that I have to stay in the library all day working on homework I know that I am going to have a good time because I have my "family" doing the same. We reserve a group study room and spend our Saturday half studying and half procrastinating. Who doesn't procrastinate in college? Either way, I love the weekends. Yes, I hate doing the homework, but if I am doing it with my "family" around I would do homework anytime. I also love the fact that I can sleep in on Saturdays. It is so nice to turn off the alarms and just wake up whenever I want to. Weekends, they're amazing.
  • BRUNCH ON SATURDAY. Every Saturday the food is always the same, well at least from 9 to 11 AM it is. I absolutely love that the café has waffles, tater tots, and omelets every single Saturday. I love all three of those things and I am filled with joy that I can eat them every Saturday. I really, really, REALLY, love brunch. Okay, so yeah brunch is amazing!
  • ICE CREAM! WHENEVER I WANT. The café has an ice cream machine that you can use when ever you are there and I love it. There is chocolate and vanilla and swirl! Isn't that awesome sauce. The best part is that one Sunday a month the café will put out toppings to make the ice cream into sundaes. It's awesome. Oh and my friend Zeph always make the best ice cream swirls. They are the tallest ice cream cones I have ever seen.

  • The Concert Choir. Being in the Concert Choir this semester has been amazing. Every time I am in choir I am able to feel the spirit in every song we sing. I am apart of a group where everyone wants to be there. Everyone has a love for music and singing and just wants to do what they love. Along with that everyone in the choir is so accepting and loving. We have socials and bonding games of Assassins and everyone is willing to talk to you and get to know you. I also have an incredible director that puts his whole heart and soul into making sure that we are doing the best that we can. Going to choir is definitely the highlight of my day through out the week.
The right is just the regular choir outfit and the left is our Hawaiian wear

Those are just a few of the many things that I love about college. Classes are going well. I will admit that the hardest class for me right now is one of my Music Theory classes. If you are thinking about going into music in college take as much music theory before college as you can. I am smiling and I am happy. I have friends that I love and I have family back home supporting me every step of the way. Overall I am doing well and I love college. I miss you all and can't wait until the day I get to see you again. If any of you want to know something specific let me know or comment!

Much love,
MJ
